Bank Account Authorization

Bank Account Authorization

There is indeed a special form you receive at the airport. When you arrive at Ben Gurion Airport as a new oleh, you'll receive a form called the "Note of Future Bank Account," which in Hebrew is called בנק חשבון לפתיחת טופס or Bank Account Authorization. This is an important document, so make sure you don't lose it.

When you go to open your bank account, the bank officer will stamp this form for you. You'll then need to bring this stamped form to your initial visit at Misrad HaKlita, the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration. It's essentially proof that you've opened your account and allows them to start processing your absorption benefits.

To open your bank account, you'll need to bring several documents with you. Bring your Teudat Zehut (ID card) and Teudat Oleh (immigrant certificate). If you don't have your Teudat Zehut yet, check with the bank to see if the Teudat Oleh alone will suffice. You'll also need that airport form, and some cash or a check to make an initial deposit and activate the account. If you're from the US, bring your social security number as well. If you're opening a joint account with your spouse, both of you must be present at the bank.

One important tip: try to go to the bank at least one hour before closing time. There are many forms to sign and the process takes time, so you don't want to be rushed or risk them closing before you're finished. Also, and this is crucial, Misrad HaKlita cannot transfer your Sal Klita payments to an inactive account, so you should open and activate your account as soon as possible after arrival.

Good luck with your aliyah!
